There is no doubt that authentic traditions are of great value in interpreting verses, decoding them, and explaining its obscurities. Quranic scholars, particularly in tradition- oriented exegeses, have always sought traditions whose isnad and text can play such a role in understanding the Qur’an. Nonetheless the main widespread problem in tradition- oriented exegeses i.e. “removing the isnad” has made the attribution of these traditions to the Infallible, subject of great criticism and serious uncertainty, leading to a greater demand for text analysis and hadith comprehension.
Many tradition – oriented exegeses, being concerned with sustenance of hadiths, have collected every hadith despite its weak authenticity ; thus both sound and weak hadiths and even faked ones have been reported in these exegeses and this is considered a severe flaw to such Sunni and Shiite commentaries. On the other hand, one of the main criteria of identifying sound hadiths is evaluating it by the Qur’an. In this article, some of the traditions mentioned in Nur -ol-Thaghalayn exegesis have been assessed employing this criterion. This study shows that a number of these hadiths, in addition to their inconsistency with reason and scientific data and etc. are in conflict with obvious quranic verses.
