Abstract Among the topics discussed in the science of hadith, the issue of rephrasing (naql-be-ma’na) hadith is subject to debate. Those accepting it , consider it permitted within special terms. This article has studied the “Majma’ al-Bayan” exegesis which pays great concern to narrating traditions , as if it has rephrased hadiths and if so, whether the necessary terms have been observed. The method used is descriptive- analytical , using library sources. The results show that in this exegesis four kinds of rephrasing has occurred: replacing synonyms, referring to part of the words or subjects , merging words of different hadiths and reconstructing the hadith . It has also elaborated that this rephrasing has led to various defects. Keywords: hadith, Majma’ al-Bayan, rephrasing hadith (naql-be-ma’na), hadith defects.
