One of the verses of Qur'an that has rosen many serious questions is the verse 34th of sura al-Nisa' concerning corporal punishment' of women. Commentators of Qur'an, from the first era, were concerned about its translation, interpretation and explaining the reason [or it. Some of the exegeses, accepting the enforcement of this rule, have tried to clarify its reason.
But others stipulated its practice to social and cult ural circumstances. In this article seven viewpoints on this verse have been quoted and examined.
