Abstract

One of the most common styles of expression used extensively in the holy
Quran is the usage of parenthetical clauses. By parenthetical clause we
mean one or couple of seemingly irrelevant sentences used among a series
of coherent sentences in the Quran in order to ward off a supposed question.
This kind of clause in the Quran cannot be considered redundant: rather they
have been expressed in their most proper position and can be quite
meaningful in the context. By identifying this style of expression in the
Quran, it becomes much easier to understand the messages included in it
and all clauses seem to be so well- coordinated, that when omitted from the
context, the intended concept is lost. Therefore, all the clauses of the Quran
are composed in a regular pattern and are void of any confusion. In this
essay the author tries to briefly allude the importance of this style and its
function in Arabic literature and then examines the rhetorical points in some
of the parenthetical clauses in the Quran, disclosing some of the miraculous
aspects of it.
