Abstract

Matoridiyya is known as one of the Islamic theological schools along with that of  the shi`ite, Mu'tazilite, and Ash'arite. Yet, in the literatures written on sects and schools of thought, it has gained  much less attention  from the beginning comparing to  the others .This theological school which was  founded and named after Abu-Mansur Matoridi, follows the Hanafi school in legal matters and is  close to Mutazalites in regard to its rational approach .As it can be seen in their creed books, they shared other sunni sects in their view on imamate, whereas they honored Ahlulbayt (PBUT).
This study  tends to pursue the  influence of their theological approach on their  interpretation of the verses related to AhlulBayt and Imam Ali (PBUT). The two extant commentaries of this sect, those of  Abu-Mansur Matoridi and Najm al-Din Omar Nasafi have been selected for this survey. The examination of their interpretive positions reveals that despite their veneration for Ahlulbayt, they have ignored mentioning reports according to which Ahlulbayt are considered as  referents  for various verses.
