Knowing the class of narrators found in hadith sanads is one of the most fundamental needs in the process of authenticating Shiite hadiths. For in the evaluation of hadith, knowing the class of narrators and verifying the connection between the chain of transmitters has a fundamental role. The class of the narrator means the approximate age of his hadith activities during two periods of carrying the hadith (time of learning) and transmitting the hadith (time of teaching to later generations). Contemporary Shiite Rijᾱl Scholars use various methods to recognize the class of narrators. The experience of the authors in para-hadith studies related to the class of narrators shows that these methods cannot answer all the challenges facing the class of narrators. This article, according to the information available in the Shiite rejᾱl, lists, and hadith sources, tries to present four new methods of knowing classes, through which many remaining challenges may be overcome. The applicability of some of these methods in opening up recognizing the classes of three narrators active in the transmission of Imᾱmῑ hadith, i.e., Ibrahim ibn Hashem, Muhammad ibn Isa ibn Ubaid, and Muhammad bin Ahmad ibn Yahya- would be shown.
